LG GSA-H12N Review
Installation
The LG GSA H12N drive
is an IDE drive and like most CD/DVD drives
the installation was simple. The drive
was detected in Windows
XP without any problems. Auto
insert notification was disabled.
Above we have a screen
shot from Nero's Infotool
4.70.
It is reporting that the read & write
speed incorrectly.
You can see from above, that it can can
also read: DVD±R
/ DVD±RW / DVD±R
DL / DVD-RAM
disks - the drive also supports a buffer
underrun protection system for CDs/DVDs
and can report C2 errors. Its also reporting
that the drive can write CD-Text.
Mount Rainier is not supported
and as the LG is a super-multi drive it
can read and write to DVD-RAM disks.
The firmware on our drive was UL01
and a patched region free firmware was
available.

Our review drive is a October
2006 model that came shipped
with firmware
version UL01. No newer version
was available but a patch version to make
it region free can be found.
NERO

We can see that the maximum CD speed is
48x and that it supports
cuesheets and DAO/96 writing. It also supports
the overburning of CDs and the writing
of CD-Text information.
BOOKTYPE SETTING

The drive allows
you to alter the drives Book
Type setting. This
allows the drive to flag +R/+RW media
with a DVD-ROM identifier setting, this
is needed because some older DVD players
do not recognise disks that identify themselves
as "+R" & "+RW".
Disks recorded on -R / -RW do not need
to use this setting as they have been around
longer and are approved by the DVD forum.
The LG drive's book settings are shown
above - notice it can not change the booktype
for "DVD+RW" disks.
SUPPORTED FEATURES - DISKINFOPRO / DISCJUGGLER
/ PLEXTOOLS
