Installation

The SD-M1912 is an IDE drive and like most CD/DVD drives the installation was simple. The drive was detected in Windows XP without any problems. Auto insert notification was disabled.

Above we have a screen shot from Nero's Infotool 2.27.

It is reporting that the Read speed is: 48 X. Toshiba have now increased the buffer to 512KB compared to the 1802's 256KB.

You can see from above, that it can can also read the DVD Alliance format's "+" disks i.e. DVD+R & DVD+RW and also DVD-RAM disks. You can also see that supports reading of DVD+R DL disks. Our drive came with firmware version TM00 and no update was available.

Our review drive is a July 2004 model with Hardware Revision A that came shipped with firmware version TM00.

The software we used for this review was: Nero 6.6.0.3, RecordNow Max 4.60 DX & CloneCD 5.

SUPPORTED FEATURES - DISKINFOPRO / DISCJUGGLER

From the various tools we used to interrogates the drive we can see it supports reading of all popular formats with the exception of Mount Rainier, DDCD and HD-Burn. It can read CD-TEXT & RW-SubCodes.
